First Response Building Services is looking to grow our team with dependable cleaners in Roanoke, Salem, Vinton, Daleville, and Franklin County, Virginia. If you are searching for cleaning jobs Roanoke VA, part-time janitorial work, weekend cleaning routes, or commercial cleaning opportunities, this page answers some of the most common questions we receive from people interested in joining our team.

What type of cleaning work do we do?

We primarily offer janitorial services for commercial businesses. This includes trash removal, dusting, sanitization, and floor care. This is generally done after business hours, although some of our clients have us clean while they are open.

Weekend assignments generally have flexibility, meaning if a business is closed from Friday at 5pm until Monday at 8am, we can clean anytime from Friday to Sunday evening. Weekday assignments generally are less flexible, but some are done during business hours, and some after business hours. We assemble routes of smaller buildings geographically and by size to minimize drive waste. For example, you may clean a small medical building, a small office, a retail space, and a daycare in the same route.

We also offer specialty services such as deep cleans, post construction cleans, carpet cleaning, and more. This is for both our commercial clients, as well as in residential homes in and around the Roanoke Valley.

Who do we hire?

We hire those who work in healthcare, public education, or public safety (Law Enforcement, Fire, Rescue, EMS, Corrections, Dispatchers). We also hire direct family (spouses, kids and parents) of these professions.

Are taxes withheld?

Yes, when you are hired by FRBS, you are a part time or full time W2 employee. We hire employees rather than subcontract out labor so we can train you, provide equipment, and build our team culture while staying compliant.

Are cleaning supplies provided?

We provide each cleaner with a caddy of supplies, vacuum, and a mop. Specialty supplies are also provided when needed.

What’s the pay, and are there benefits?

We use a flat rate pay system for recurring assignments. We call it “Property Pay”. This means if you clean a building, you are paid a set amount despite the time it takes. We set these rates at or above your assigned hourly rate. This means that as you become more efficient while cleaning, your effective hourly rate becomes higher. Our current average hourly earnings over our flat rate assignments is $33.45/hour. We start at $25 an hour for hourly rates, which is for training, administrative, or hourly assignment labor.

Benefits are in effect for part time employees who meet certain criteria. One of which is a minimum hours per week of 5. Additional benefits are in the works!

What is the hiring process like?

Once you apply, you will be invited to a group interview. After group interviews, we invite those who move to the next step to an individual interview. This can be a working interview where you clean, or another formal interview.

Upon an offer of employment being accepted, we begin an onboarding process which includes completing employment paperwork (W4, VA4, I9, emergency contact, SP-230 authorization), and then training starts. Training consists of 2.5 hours of videos/tests online, and then field training.
